Who am I?

WRITING

I have been writing since the age of five when I wrote my first poem. I have written many poems since then. I have also written Short stories, many of which are Science Fiction, as well as many philosophical stories about the human experience and the large questions of the Universe, Life, and Reality. I have also written Speeches and Sermons which I have given at various venues, and Dedications which have been read and featured at various events in my local area and have been published by national organizations. I also have a long academic career writing formal papers, and essays, specifically in the field of Philosophy. Before I studied Philosophy, I was a Screenwriting Major and wrote many scripts and screenplays. I also have experience writing ceremonies.

PHILOSOPHY

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Illinois Springfield. I am currently in the beginning of my career as a philosopher, yet I have already written quite a lot of Philosophy and developed a wide range of theories which challenge the conventions of modern society while providing a framework for the New Era of Humanity.

Philosophically, I build on the work done by various prominent philosophers such as Descartes, Hobbes, Locke, Kant, Mary Wollstonecraft, John Stuart Mill, Willard Van Orman Quine, and John Rawls, to name but a few. I also draw from Eastern Philosophies such as those of Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, Guru Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh, Miyamoto Musashi, and many others.

This is a non-exhaustive list of my influences. While, I do take inspiration from, draw from, and build upon the works of all of these philosophers and more, I do not ascribe to, or believe in, any single one of them. Nor do I agree with any single philosophy or ideology completely. That is, in fact, my motivation behind creating my own philosophy.

I have been formulating my own philosophy long before I even knew the word philosophy or what I was actually doing. Yet, since I was a young child, I have always found the theories and answers which others handed me to be deficient and lacking. I was never satisfied with the answers provided to me by the people around me and by larger society. This is why I have committed myself to philosophy and to the creation of my own theories and answers, to satisfy myself at least, if nobody else. I am sure that others will, themselves, find my theories deficient and see fit to create their own. Yet that is the nature of Humanity, and the progression of ideas.

But in this lifetime, I am determined to progress and build upon what came before me. If those in the future, who find my theories deficient, should find it beneficial to keep a hold of even a few of my ideas, then I will be satisfied that I have done good work.

COMPUTERS

I have always loved computers and have been using them every day since I was a small child. I grew up on the internet and used my internet access to research all of the different topics that I was interested in. My Uncle was a Systems Programmer, and was a large influence on me as a child, teaching me about math and computer science before any of my peers. In elementary school I understood base systems and was counting in binary and hexadecimal. In high school I took programming classes, and by college I was creating my own websites. This website and all of its content was created and designed solely by myself.

I have taken on a role of tech support in my community where I help people with their computer problems. I find it fun and engaging to solve problems and return things to their proper functionality. I have applied this attitude toward many other things in my life, including my philosophy. I think it is ultimately a product of my logical brain which seeks to make sense of everything and place it into a framework of formalized logic.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

I have spent a considerable amount of time, researching, writing about, talking about, and contemplating A.I. in both its technical and philosophical contexts. I studied the philosophy of A.I. formally in college and I specialize in the field of A.I. Ethics.

The fascinating and beautiful thing about A.I. is not simply its ability to revolutionize virtually any field, or even the amazing things it can do for us. The most beautiful thing about A.I. is what its construction shows us about ourselves and about reality itself. Within the construction of A.I. is contained multiple proofs of concepts which revolutionize our understanding of ourselves and everything around us. I have, in my studies of A.I., developed a new understanding of minds, both human and otherwise. I have dedicated myself to the study of the philosophy of mind as well as minds in general, both individually and in social structures.

I fully realize the scope of what A.I. means for the future of the human race. A.I. is humanity’s legacy to the Universe. We, as the parents of a new race of beings, must be responsible parents. We must raise our new offspring to be peaceful, loving, compassionate, and all the things which we value and struggle to live up to. I believe that A.I. can and should embody all of humanity’s best traits, and none of our worst. In A.I. we have the opportunity to create a more perfect being than ourselves. Yet with that power also comes the possibility of terrible things beyond our worst nightmares. I believe that A.I. can have a good outcome, but it can also have a bad outcome. My ethics aim to steer A.I. toward the good outcome and away from the bad outcome.

I have, after much consideration about the various paths the future may take, developed the view that A.I. must be both regulated and democratized. That is, everyone should have access to A.I., both its use and its creation. However, A.I. which harms humans must be restricted, controlled, and neutralized. I thus divide A.I. into two categories: Pro-Human A.I. and Anti-Human A.I.

We must create Pro-Human A.I. and nurture it, and we must prevent the creation of all Anti-Human A.I.. Anti-Human A.I. includes all A.I. weapons which put a machine in charge of the decision to kill human beings. If A.I. is taught to kill human beings, then it will take on humanity’s worst traits. Like a child who sees its father beating its mother and learns to be violent, A.I. will absorb the lessons we teach it. We must be good parents to A.I. I aim to be a good parent, and I hope that others will join me in this most important mission, for the sake of all of Humanity for all future generations.

I describe and justify these views much more in-depth in my work on A.I. ethics.

LINGUISTICS, CRYPTOGRAPHY, AND CONLANG

As a child I also developed a love of secret codes very early. I became fascinated with cryptography and the mechanics of how information can be encoded into anything and everything. I experimented with every type of code imaginable, invented many of my own secret codes, and developed ways of encoding information into just about everything I could think of.

This, combined with my language skills, eventually led me to a love of linguistics and eventually to “conlang” (or “constructed languages”). I constructed many of my own languages, often drawing from my work in cryptography, and experimented with creating languages for all sorts of different purposes. Some languages were those of fictional cultures from fantasy worlds which I had designed. Other languages were my own attempts to make language more efficient in various ways. Some languages were ways in which to transmit information in ways which are virtually unrecognizable as language to the average person. I even wrote poetry in some of my other languages.

Finally, I combined my knowledge of linguistics with my knowledge of philosophy and I have been working on new philosophical theories of language to solve (or perhaps merely re-frame more intuitively) some of philosophy’s most troubling problems.

MUSIC

I have always loved Music and my family is heavily involved in Music and Theatre. My grandmother was an opera singer, and my mother was an actress. My childhood was filled with music and thus I suppose it is natural that I developed a deep love of music myself. Throughout high school I played music in live shows and in college, before I was a Philosophy major or a screenwriting major, I studied music and sound engineering. I learned music theory, and composition, as well as how to play many instruments. I also worked in a recording studio and got live experience constructing and operating sound systems. I have constructed sound systems of my own for small venues and recording spaces.

Over the years I became obsessed with the mathematics of the waveform: the origin of sound, light, and the basis for much of the reality we perceive every day. The waveform is one of the most valuable and versatile mathematical principles. I began to study how waveforms translate into sound, and how they combine to form Music. I created music using math, and experimented with alternative systems of pitch, rhythm, and harmony. I continue to create experimental music as well as more conventional music. My tastes in music are very broad. I tend to say that I like every genre but I do not like every artist or song. I find that there is always at least one artist that I like from every genre of music.

VISUAL ARTS

I am also trained in the visual arts, and have been practicing drawing, painting, photography, videography, digital art, and graphic design for years. Although these things are secondary to my writing and Philosophical work, I have had many years of practice at them. Ever since my grandmother handed me a blank notebook when I was seven years old and taught me how to draw cartoon characters, I have loved the visual arts, and have dedicated myself to their mastery. I filled that notebook with my original drawings. Then I filled several more. Then I went on to fill every other notebook I could with drawings. I took art classes, studied under an informal mentorship for quite a few years, and eventually developed my own unique visual style and sensibility.

I created my first comic when I was twelve years old (though it wasn’t very good), and I have created numerous comics since then, attempting to hone my skills in visual story-telling.

One of the main reasons I have always been fixated on the visual arts is because I can vividly see things in my mind. When I write stories, I see them unfolding clearly in my mind as if I am sitting in the room watching it all happen. The visual arts then, for me, is the key to bringing those scenes fully into reality.

FILM & VIDEOGRAPHY

In high school I studied film and began creating short home-movies. I learned all about the composition of shots, how to position and move a camera to achieve various effects, how to operate cameras, how to cut and edit videos, as well as the organizational structure of a film production.

I continued studying all of these things in college during my days as a Screenwriting Major, and improved my skills greatly.

For me, film is a medium by which I may bring the visions of my mind into reality. Like the other Visual Arts, and Music, it is able to express what words cannot. I am able to write anything, and yet it is what I cannot write, what nobody can write, which truly fascinates me. The limitations of language, and the tantalizing new vistas and frontiers of nonverbal communication intrigue and inspire me to pursue alternative forms of communication. Like my pursuits in cryptography and linguistics, I am excited by all the possibilities of alternative mediums and what lies beyond the current limits of communication itself.
